Description:  This Course provides a primer for health care workers not trained or experienced in working with clients who have addictive disease. The emphasis will be on understanding the addictive process, communication skills to gather substance use history, and discussion of ‘red flags’ in a patient history which indicates probable misuse of substances. The course includes a discussion of treatment options, including a harm-reduction approach to substance use.
